High PING

Your PING result is high. Voice calls may cut a part of a word, video might not be smooth and virtual desktops might feel a pause every now and then. Remote Applications may also respond slowly.

High Jitter

Your Jitter result is high. This will mean that Audio and Video calls will drop out, be patchy or not connect at all. Jitter is usually linked with a High PING result.

Low Download Speed

Your Download speed is lower than 2.5Mbps, this will means that you may not be able to make or receive audio calls, you will also experience poor performance when using other applications and websites.

Low Upload Speed

Your Upload speed is lower than 2.5Mps, this will means that you may not be able to make or receive audio calls, you will also experience poor performance when using other applications and websites.

Common Fixes/Workarounds

Sometimes your connection may be improved by trying some of the methods below. The speed of your connection is influenced by many factors, such as how well your WiFi works within your location, the distance from your router to your local telephone exchange. Your speed can also be impacted by other physical telephones or extension points wired from your master telephone point.

Work closer to your router - especially if you are using WiFi. WiFi networks are designed to cover small areas, everyday things like Walls, Radiators, other Wifi Networks and other technology can interfere with the signal.
Connect your device directly to the Router using a network cable then repeating the speedtest. If you get a better connection by using a cable attached directly to the router, you could invest in Home Plugs which enable internet traffic through your electrical circuit, allowing you to work in an office/room away from your router. Or look at WiFi extenders and Mesh Access points, keep in mind that these are home consumable.
Disconnect other telephone equipment ensuring that your ADSL router is the only device connected to the Master Socket.
Ensure other house hold devices are switched off or not streaming, such as SmartTV's, Amazon Echo, Google Home, Apple HomePod and Gaming Consoles.
Reboot your Router (by switching it off and waiting a minute) - this will reset the WiFi and trigger the router to reselect the channel that it uses, this may help if you live in an area with many WiFi networks. Rebooting an ADSL router can also trigger the router to re-synchronise with the exchange sometimes improving the connection. Consult your ISP if necessary.

These indicate the amount of bandwidth that is currently available on your connection, this result will differ depending on the time of day and the level of usage of your internet line. The internet traffic also has to pass through any internet filtering solution which may impact your actual speed.

Ping:

Represents the amount of time or latency (measured in milliseconds) that "Packet" of data takes to reach the Scomis and DCC platforms. Ideally the Ping response time should be below 30ms, any higher than this and your Hosted Applications connection, network or Skype experience will likely be poor..

Jitter:

This is a measurement of the fluctuation of latency over time. Generally speaking, Jitter will be much less than the Ping result. If the Jitter result is above 50ms, your Hosted Applications connection, network or Skype experience will likely be poor. Ideally the jitter response should be below 30ms.

** This connection test may be influenced by a number of factors which are beyond the control of Scomis or the test. Telemetry data is being recorded so that Scomis can learn more about the types of internet connection our customers are using.
